Taylor Swift performed Carole King’s “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” at the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Swift and Hudson inducted King into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, October 30.
Swift moved around the stage slowly and methodically, letting the music and words wash over her, aided by a chorus of soft-glow supporting singers and a lush foundation of synths – the song felt like it could’ve slipped right into 1989. Her performance was silky smooth and full of adoration, demonstrating that she had grown up listening to King’s songs. Moreover, Swift wore a black, lacey bodysuit with minimal glitter embellishments. And, matching glittery eyeshadow to fit the night’s formal tone.
Swift seemed ecstatic to be performing the song, beaming broadly after the first chorus. As the audience erupted in applause and added theatrical vocal flourishes here and there for emphasis. She had a sarcastic look on her face after singing some of the more pointed lyrics, such as “So tell me now, and I won’t ask again,” which proved she meant business. Furthermore, a video tribute featuring Sara Bareilles and Elton John was also featured as part of the tribute. Tom Hanks claimed in the video that “Tapestry” is “probably the greatest song of all time.”
