Staffers of ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ detained by Capitol Police for unlawful entry

Several people working on the CBS show ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’  have been detained by cops at the United States Capitol, in Washington D.C.

The arrest took on Thursday over unlawful entry at the Capitol and involved filming a skit of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

Police arrested multiple staffers at ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ over taping a television stunt

Some members of ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ production team including Robert Smigel were charged with unlawful entry.

The Capitol Police reported on Friday that they detained seven people in one of the hallways of the Longworth House Office Building at 8:30 PM Thursday after it was closed to visitors.

The cops mentioned that they booted the members to leave the building earlier that day.

CBS officials released a statement regarding the incident. A spokesperson said, ‘Responding officers observed seven individuals, unescorted and without Congressional ID, in a sixth-floor hallway.’

The statement goes, ‘The building was closed to visitors, and these individuals were determined to be a part of a group that had been directed by the USCP to leave the building earlier in the day.’

CBS confirmed that the puppet of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was with the crew when they were arrested.

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog has been voiced by Robert Smigel for many years 

It was reported that the team was done with pre-arranged interviews of Congress members. They were preparing to shoot the ‘final comedy elements’ in Capitol’s hallways for an upcoming segment on the talk show when they were detained.

The team was filming near the offices of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Republican Representative Lauren Boebert.

The incident remains under investigation with Matthew M. Graves, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, serving as the consultant.

The USCP said in a statement that Colbert and his companions could face additional charges.

Fox News reported that aside from Robert Smigel, cops arrested Jake Plunkett, Allison Martinez, and Tyrone Dean. Staffers also included Stephen, Nicoletta Green, Brendan Hurley, Josh Comers, and David Feldman.

The reason for the discrepancy behind the cops referring to seven individuals while Fox News reported nine names remains unclear.

However, Mr. Graves as well as his office are yet to comment on the situation.
