Snoop Dogg: A Pioneer in Cannabis Culture and Edibles
3 min readCalvin Broadus Jr., widely known as Snoop Dogg, is not just a legendary figure in the world of West Coast hip hop but also a significant player in the cannabis industry. The 52-year-old rapper has become a cultural icon, with his affinity for cannabis playing a central role in his public persona. Snoop Dogg’s connection with the medicinal and recreational use of cannabis is well-documented, with the rapper famously tweeting in 2013 that he smoked up to 81 blunts a day.
In 2015, Snoop Dogg made a bold move by launching his own line of cannabis-infused edibles under the brand name “Leafs by Snoop.” This marked the beginning of his journey into the cannabis business, a journey that has since seen him launch several other brands and collaborations. The initial product lineup included chews, chocolate bars, gummies, and drops, all branded as “Dogg treats” and infused with flavors like peaches and cream.

Snoop Dogg’s foray into the edibles market didn’t stop with Leafs by Snoop. In 2022, he partnered with Tsumo Snacks, a startup focused on cannabis-infused snacks, to release Snazzle Os. These savory treats, available in onion and spicy onion flavors, offered a unique twist on traditional edibles, reflecting Snoop Dogg’s desire to bring something new to the market. “There are plenty of sweet edibles out there,” Snoop remarked, “so when I created this product, I wanted to put the Dogg twist on it, which is why I’m bringing the savory THC-infused crispy onion-flavored rings to my home state of California.”
In 2023, Snoop Dogg expanded his cannabis empire by collaborating with Atlas Global Brands, a Canadian cannabis producer. This partnership allowed him to curate a line of cannabis products, including edibles, oils, and concentrates, all personally approved by the rapper himself. Snoop’s excitement about the partnership was evident as he praised Atlas for their innovation and global reach, which he saw as key to delivering high-quality products to his fans.
But Snoop Dogg’s entrepreneurial ventures in the cannabis industry don’t end there. In 2023, his record label, Death Row Records, joined forces with Hill Beverage Co. to launch hemp-infused drinks called “Do It Fluid.” These beverages were designed to offer fans a healthier alternative to smoking while still delivering the effects they desire. As Snoop explained, “I wanted alternatives to smoking that would still get my fans where they need to be.”
In 2024, Snoop Dogg further cemented his status as a cannabis entrepreneur with the launch of a S.W.E.D dispensary store. This new venture featured limited-edition cannabis products that paid tribute to the late Tupac Shakur, another icon in the hip-hop world.
Snoop Dogg’s journey from hip-hop legend to cannabis mogul is a testament to his business acumen and passion for the plant. His range of cannabis-infused edibles and other products has made him a major player in the industry, turning his love for cannabis into a thriving business that continues to grow.
