Singer Jesse Malin disclosed that he is paralysed from the waist down after having a spinal cord stroke in a New York City restaurant last month. It is reported by Rolling Stone that the 56-year-old punk rocker is confined to a wheelchair and receiving physical therapy in a New York City rehab center. Spinal cord strokes occur when the blood supply to the spine is interrupted, which can happen as a result of a blood clot, plaque accumulation in the arteries, or spinal cord haemorrhage. A lack of blood hinders the spinal cord of oxygen and nutrients, “causing damage to and possibly destroying the cells in the spinal cord,” as stated by Northwestern Medicine.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, signs of a spinal cord stroke include soreness or paralysis in the legs, severe back pain, or scorching back pain. Spinal cord strokes are extremely rare, accounting for only 0.3-1% of all strokes, but if not treated promptly, they can result in paralysis and death, according to Northwestern Medicine. Malin will undergo orthodox and alternative medical methods to get back on his feet following this devastating prognosis, according to a campaign from Malin’s team through the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. The revelation of Malin’s spinal cord stroke comes less than a month after he stated he would cancel his scheduled UK and US tours due to a “serious back injury.”

Jesse Malin Suffers A Rare Spinal Cord Stroke And Is Paralyzed From The Waist Down

Jesse Malin, a key member in New York City’s rock and punk scenes, was paralysed from the waist down after suffering a rare spinal stroke last month. Carla Parisi, Malin’s manager, confirmed Thursday that Malin was brought by ambulance to Mount Sinai Hospital on May 4 after collapsing at an East Village restaurant and required to be carried out. He was eventually diagnosed with an exceedingly uncommon spinal cord infarction, also known as a stroke in the spine, which rendered him paralysed. Jesse requests that everyone imagine him dancing, according to Parisi in an email. According to the fundraising campaign set up to assist cover Malin’s medical expenditures, he is receiving neurological treatment at the Langone Orthopaedic Centre at NYU Hospital. According to the website, his diagnosis is incurable. There is still hope, but it will be a long and difficult journey including both orthodox and alternative medical procedures to get him back on his feet after this devastating prognosis.

Jesse Malin told Rolling Stone that he felt a scorching agony in his lower back that travelled to his hips and legs before collapsing to the floor. Jesse Malin had no idea what was going on with his body, and everyone was standing over me, much like in ‘Rosemary’s Baby. Malin told the magazine that he is committed to having a positive mindset regarding his situation and rehabilitation. “I’m told they don’t really understand it and aren’t sure what the chances are,” he added. The doctor’s reports have been difficult, and there are times during the day when you want to cry and feel afraid. But I keep telling myself that I can pull this off. Malin, a Queens native, began his rock ‘n’ roll career in the 1980s as a teenager with the hard-core punk band Heart Attack. But he’s perhaps best known as the frontman of the New York City punk band D Generation, which formed in the early 1990s.
