Selena Gomez has been increasingly candid about her relationship with producer Benny Blanco, and in her latest The Hollywood Reporter cover story, the singer and actress explained the reasoning behind her transparency. For Gomez, sharing glimpses of her personal life is a strategy to maintain peace and lessen the invasive curiosity of fans and media.
“When you put a little bit out there, people are not as hungry to hunt you down,” Selena Gomez shared in the interview published on November 20, 2024. “If you’re like, ‘I did it,’ they’re like, ‘Oh, well, there’s you, just going to Sushi Park.'”
The Only Murders in the Building star referenced her recent date night with Blanco at Sushi Park, a West Hollywood restaurant they frequent. On November 6, Gomez was spotted there, humorously shielding her face with a brown scarf. “I just try not to give them good ones sometimes,” she joked about dodging paparazzi shots. “But other times, it’s part of the job and you just have to deal with it.”
While Selena Gomez has shared more about this relationship than past ones, she maintains boundaries, keeping much of her love life private. Still, she admits her openness is tied to her strong feelings for Blanco. “I guess this is the safest I’ve ever felt in one, and I see a future with this person,” she said.
Their relationship began publicly in December 2023, although the pair had been friends for over a decade before Gomez made the first move in July 2023. Gomez has since expressed how her bond with Blanco has transformed her perspective on love. In a Vanity Fair interview in September, she described him as “a complete light” in her life and her “best friend.”
Blanco has also spoken fondly about Selena Gomez, revealing during a recent Kai Cenat livestream that he didn’t initially realize their first dinner together was a date. “She asked me out,” he said, adding that it wasn’t until mid-meal that he caught on. By the end of the night, he knew their friendship had shifted into something deeper, leading to the beginning of their romance.
