The late Queen Elizabeth II was allegedly furious with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they claimed to have received her blessing for naming their daughter Lilibet, according to revelations from the upcoming biography “Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story.”

A royal aide, as cited by the Daily Mail, reported that Queen Elizabeth was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” in response to the public statement made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex regarding the Queen’s approval of using her childhood moniker for their second child, Lilibet.

Contradictions with Past Statements

This revelation contradicts statements made over two years ago by a palace insider who informed the BBC that Queen Elizabeth was “never asked” her opinion on the nam ing of Lilibet before the child’s birth in June 2021. The BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond had tweeted at that time, “Palace source tells BBC that the Queen was not asked by Meghan and Harry over the use of her childhood nickname.”

Although royal sources confirmed to Page Six that Prince Harry did call and speak to his grandmother after Meghan Markle gave birth, it was suggested that the nature of the call might have been more of an informal announcement rather than a request for approval. An insider noted, “It will have likely been a call saying that she’s arrived, and we’d plan to name her after you — it’s not really something one can say no to. I doubt they asked — more likely informed.”

The Sussexes’ Announcement and Buckingham Palace’s Response

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the birth of Lilibet Diana in a statement, expressing gratitude for the love and prayers they received globally. They clarified that Lilibet’s name was a tribute to her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, whose family nickname is Lilibet, and her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor Harry’s late mother, The Princess of Wales.

However, Buckingham Palace seemingly celebrated Lili’s birth days later in a statement on behalf of the royal family, expressing delight with the news. Prince William and Kate Middleton also congratulated Harry, Meghan, and Archie on the arrival of baby Lili via Twitter.

In addition to Lilibet Diana, the Sussexes are parents to Archie Harrison, who was born in May 2019.

As the revelations unfold in the forthcoming biography, the alleged outrage of Queen Elizabeth adds a new layer to the intricate dynamics within the royal family.
