Rod Wave Claps Back: Did the Rapper Steal Music? Social Media Eruption as He Responds to Allegations
4 min readRod Wave took to X, previously known as Twitter, on Tuesday (Nov. 21), to respond to a recent allegation that he has been copying songs. While he never names, Boosie Badazz recently requested payment from the Nostalgia rapper for stealing lyrics from Boosie’s 2010 tune “Long Journey” starring Webbie. Another astute Twitter user noticed a startling connection between Rod Wave’s words in “2019” and Jay-Z’s lyrics in “Song Cry,” adding that Rod did not even acknowledge Hov as a songwriter. Other reviewers soon came out and compared Rod’s bars to those of Drake and Tupac Shakur.
Rod also took to his Instagram Story to respond to the allegations levelled against him, emphatically denying that he has stolen music from anyone. Rod’s remarks come after Boosie BadAzz went live on Instagram on Tuesday to debut a new song. While the new song does not expressly mention Rod Wave’s name, the timing is interesting given the two rappers’ brief online feud over sampling concerns. Boosie had earlier mentioned Rod Wave by name when he learnt of his sampling, but he was flattered and stated that Rod had not been the only one. Rod responded by offering to “pull up” to Boosie to provide him adequate recompense, but Boosie did not respond.

A large number of people. Rod Wave isn’t the only one.” “I love it when they do that st,” he added. They’ll be bringing me flowers. When I hear that s**t, I like it.
