3 min readRio Hackford, an actor and club owner, died on April 14th at the age of 52. Alex Hackford, his brother, reported that he died of an illness. Rio Hackford was Helen Mirren’s stepson and the son of director Taylor Hackford. His friends remembered him as someone who could link people from all walks of life. “Not just obsessed with movies and how they mirrored and compelled. He was something more: a superfan of uncountable scenes. Of individual gestures of unheralded performers, strange career swings, roaring comebacks, film swan songs,” his friend and playwright D.V. DeVincentis wrote on Instagram. “With a Zelig-like journey that could create a page-turner of a biography. He was a terrific magnet for creative individuals”. He was a master at bringing people’s personalities and abilities together, and he was one of the best at it.”
Who was Rio Hackford?
Rio Hackford, who was born on June 28, 1970, is best known for his role as Toby in the HBO drama series Treme. In 1990, the Los Angeles County, California native began his acting career with a role in the romantic comedy picture Pretty Woman. The picture, directed by Garry Marshall, was a box office triumph, and Rio Hackford took an uncredited appearance as a street junkie. Other films in which he appeared include Safe, Exit to Eden, I Love Your Work, Treasure Island, Strange Days, and more.
After that, he starred as Detective King in the supernatural horror-thriller Stay Alive, which he directed in 2006. Despite getting mixed reviews, the film directed by William Brent Bell was a box office success when it was released on March 24, 2006. After that, Hackford starred as Grayden Nash in Jonah Hex, a 2010 Western superhero film. It was based on the same-named DC Comics character. The picture, however, was a critical and commercial flop.
