Rainn Wilson changes his name to protest climate change

The Office alum Rainn Wilson, best known for his performance as Dwight Schrute, has changed his name to raise awareness of the climate crisis.

Why did Rainn Wilson change his name?
Rainn Wilson had taken a drastic step by changing his name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson in hopes to draw attention to the climate crisis.
Moreover, on Wednesday he took to his Twitter handle to share the announcement with his 4.4 million followers.
He wrote, ‘With the help of my scientist friends at Arctic Basecamp, I’ve changed my name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson.’
Additionally, he explained that he changed his name using a website called Arctic Risk Name Generator.
Wilson stated, ‘This is not a joke, I’m as serious as the melting Arctic, which amplifies global risks including extreme weather events around the globe.’

He added, ‘I’m hoping this name change brings attention to this growing… er, melting issue. We need world leaders at COP27 to take notice and take action. The Arctic is melting at millions of liters per second, yet this problem can’t seem to make a name for itself, so it’s up to us to make a name for it.’
Furthermore, the 56-year-old actor’s announcement comes ahead of the United Nations climate change conference COP27 that is scheduled to take place in Egypt this week.

Wilson went on to urge the public and celebrities alike to join him and promote climate change awareness.
Besides that, he suggested that Cardi B could change her name to ‘Cardi the arctic B melting’ and ‘Amy Poehler bears are endangered.’
Meanwhile, Gail Whiteman, founder of Arctic Basecamp and a professor of sustainability at the University of Exeter Business School supported the actor.
He said that he was ‘grateful’ for Wilson calling for people to do their bit.
Fans react to Rainn Wilson’s name change
Although Rainn Wilson has certainly brought the subject of climate change into the open, social media users are endlessly trolling him for his new name.
Besides that, while many found Wilson’s drastic action ‘extreme’ others claim that it is quite Dwight-esque.
