2 min readAuthorities have released the death certificate of Queen Elizabeth II nearly 22 days after her demise.
Here is everything you need to know.
How did Queen Elizabeth II die?
The National Records of Scotland recently issued the death certificate of Britain’s longest reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the reports, she died earlier this month on 8th September 2022 at 3:10 pm UK time, or 10:10 a.m. ET, at Balmoral Castle in Ballater, Scotland.
Moreover, at that time, Buckingham Palace released a statement stating that the Queen ‘died peacefully’ at the age of 96.
Subsequently, the cause of her death was not revealed. However, recent reports have unveiled the reason behind her death.
As per the most recent reports, the monarch passed away due to ‘old age’ with no other contributing factors.
Additionally, the Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, has been registered as the informant of her death. Anne mentioned that she was ‘fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my [her] dearest Mother’s life,’ in an official statement after her mother’s demise.
Dr. Douglas James Allan Glass certified the Queen’s death. Buckingham Palace called him an ‘apothecary to the Queen’, her doctor in Scotland.
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace broke the news of the Queen’s death at 6:30 pm UK time or 1:30 pm ET. But few reports are indicating that Prime Minister Liz Truss was informed privately at 4:30 pm UK time.
Queen Elizabeth II passed away because of ‘old age’
According to BBC, coroners noted that ‘old age’ can indeed be listed as the sole reason for death in some ‘very limited circumstances.’
They further claimed, ‘If the certifying doctor has personally taken care of someone over a long period of time and has observed a gradual decline. If the doctor is not aware of any identifiable disease or injury which is the reason for death. Then old age can be mentioned as the main contributing factor.’
While Queen Elizabeth II’s death certificate claims that she died due to ‘old age’, over time Buckingham Palace has notified the several health issues faced by the monarch.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the Queen has tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace released a statement to elaborate further on health status.
The report said, ‘Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week.’
