According to TMZ, the Erie County Coroner’s Office has determined that the fatal incident was a suicide. Emily Matson, a renowned and award-winning news anchor & reporter at WICU-TV in Erie, PA, has died. She was 42 years old. Lilly Broadcasting, the parent company of NBC affiliate WICU, acknowledged her death on December 11 but provided no other details. Matson started her career in the early 2000s as an intern at Erie’s WJET-TV.

According to reports from The Erie Times-News and The New York Post, the county coroner has determined that the cause of death for Pennsylvania news anchor Emily Matson was suicide. Matson tragically passed away on Monday morning in Fairview Township after being struck by a train. Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook, as reported by the Post on Tuesday, described the evidence surrounding the 42-year-old local news anchor’s death as “unquestionable.” Expressing shock and a sense of overwhelming sadness, Erie News Now News Director Scott MacDowell paid tribute to Matson, stating, “It is with an extremely heavy heart that we were informed of the sudden passing of our cherished Erie News Now news anchor Emily Matson.”
