Nickmercs Sparks Controversy with Comments Denying the Existence of Transgender People
3 min readOn June 11, 2024, popular streamer Nicholas “Nickmercs” became a hot topic on social media following the release of a 42-second video clip. In the footage, Nickmercs, known for his presence on both Twitch and Kick, was seen engaging with viewers while playing Elden Ring. The moment took a controversial turn when a viewer mentioned transgender people, prompting an unexpected reaction from the streamer.
Nickmercs, who is also a co-owner of FaZe Clan, made a bold statement, asserting that transgender people do not exist. He responded to the viewer’s comment by saying:
“‘Nick, the transphobes are struggling against the trans…’ There’s no such thing as trans people. That’s something that you created. So, have fun in your little dreamland, but that s**t is not even real.”

He continued his tirade with a more explicit clarification:
“Let me break it down for you, all right? Ps – dude. V*a – girl. Done! Don’t come in here with fking trans st, bruh! Ridiculous!”
The reaction to Nickmercs’ comments was swift and divided. Many viewers and social media users expressed outrage, while others supported his views. The clip quickly went viral, amplifying the debate surrounding his stance.
This incident echoes a previous controversy involving Nickmercs from June 9, 2023. At that time, he faced backlash for commenting on a confrontation involving an anti-LGBTQ+ group, suggesting that children should be “left alone.” Following that incident, Activision responded by removing his Operator bundle from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.
Notably, YouTube streamer Timothy “TimTheTatman” voiced his support for Nickmercs, requesting that his own Operator bundle be removed in solidarity.
In a subsequent livestream, Nickmercs addressed the latest controversy, admitting that the backlash had affected him. He clarified his position, stating:
“The video bothered me. I just don’t think it’s any place for a teacher or a school, I don’t think it’s the place to speak about things like that. And it’s not that I think it shouldn’t be spoken about. If that’s what you got from that Tweet, you’re just wrong. I don’t have any quarrels with anybody here, I don’t have any quarrels with people on the internet.”
The 33-year-old streamer also defended his previous comments, emphasizing that they were not intended to be anti-LGBTQ+:
“It wasn’t an anti-gay tweet. That wasn’t what it was. If you have issues with me or if you have issues with that tweet, we can agree to disagree. That’s fine, but if you think I hate you because you’re a certain way, that’s not the truth.”
As Nickmercs continues to navigate the fallout from his statements, the incident highlights the ongoing tensions and conversations around transgender issues within the gaming community. Whether this will impact his career long-term remains to be seen, but it is clear that his comments have struck a nerve and sparked significant debate.
Will NickMercs get canceled for this?
