Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards recently issued a groveling apology for his homophobic Instagram Story.

Anthony Edwards addressed his previous homophobic comments

Anthony Edwards took to his official handle on Twitter to issue an apology for his homophobic comments.

He wrote in a Sunday afternoon post, ‘What I said was immature, hurtful, and disrespectful, and I’m incredibly sorry.’

Furthermore, Edwards continued, ‘It’s unacceptable for me or anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way, there’s no excuse for it, at all. I was raised better than that!’

Edwards’s apology comes after he shared a homophobic clip on his Instagram Story with his 1.2 million followers.

Earlier this week, the 22-year-old NBA star posted a video from his car, where he zooms in on a group of shirtless men standing on the sidewalk.

In the clip, Edwards c an be heard using a racial slur.

He said, ‘Look at these queer a** n****s, man. Look at the world I came to.’

How will Anthony Edwards be punished?

It remains unclear whether Anthony Edwards will receive any punishment over his comments from Minnesota Timberwolves or the NBA.

However, the No 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft is most likely to be fined for his homophobic comments.

According to a report by The Star Tribune, Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant was fined $50,000 in April 2021. He reportedly used homophobic, misogynistic, and profane language in a social media post aimed at actor Michael Rapaport.

Additionally, Rajon Rondo, Kobe Bryant, and Nikola Jokic were also fined for using racial slurs during NBA games in the past.

Anthony Edwards will soon enter his third season with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2022-23. It will come following his graduation from Georgia in 2020.

Additionally, Edwards averaged 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game last year. Furthermore, he shot at a 35.7% clip from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Timberwolves President Tim Connelly talked about Edwards’s future on the court in an interview.

He said, ‘We think he can be a transcendent player.’

Moreover, he mentioned, ‘We think he can be one of the best two-way players in the league. We think he can be an all-league defender. That’s a lot to put on his shoulders, but if we didn’t think he was capable of that, we wouldn’t be challenging him.’
