MEME: Jorts The Cat Reddit Goes Viral, Ethnic Stereotypes Debate Explained

An unnamed Reddit user claims that a colleague accused them of “perpetuating ethnic stereotypes” after calling the office ginger cat “dumb”. The viewers are left flabbergasted over the cat fanatic’s overreaction after the story went viral on Reddit and Twitter. However the viral story is not cute about a pet feline, rather it is a discussion of whether Jorts is “dumb” or not.

It all started on December 14, 2021, when a Reddit user shared a post u/throwawatorangecat. The post of a Reddit user with the title ‘AITA’ narrates the user’s experience either s co-worker, who has given the pseudonym Pam and her treatment of two cats at their workplace.
Jean and Jorts are the two cats at Pam and the Reddit user’s office. As per the post, when about Jean, the tortoiseshell cat, is independent and helps Jorts. Whereas on the other hand, Jorts is a “simple guy” and struggles with uncomplicated tasks such as pushing the door open.
When the Reddit user noticed that Jorts often locked himself while struggling with the door open. The doorstop was bought by them – something didn’t approve of Pam.
It was claimed by Pam, that the Reddit user deprived Jorts of the “chance to learn.”
The Reddit user wrote, “I love Jorts but he’s just dumb af and we can’t change that”.
Pam was furious about that. Later Pam accused the user of “perpetuating ethnic stereotypes” by saying “orange cats are dumb” and sent in the group email to everyone including the volunteers.
An Update On Story Surrounding The Feline
An update was provided by @throwawatorangecat telling that a conversation was held with their HR manager to deal with the cat, Pam, and the stereotype situation.
According to the post, Pam will be no longer allowed to assign other staff Jorts-related tutoring, which she was doing earlier. Also, she had been refrained from teaching grooming techniques to Jorts by applying margarine, which she used to do in the past.
The Reddit user apologized and at the same time assured that Jorts will be treated well. He will be provided with a new bed along with his name on it. Also his staff bio with a real picture. As the Reddit user believes the presence of Jorts and Jean’s is vital for their business.
