American rapper Megan Thee Stallion’ much-anticipated self-titled album is set for release on June 28, 2024. However, her enthusiasm for blending anime into her new music has led to some last-minute challenges.

On June 26, 2024, Megan took to Instagram Live to share her frustration over a recent issue with an anime sample in her upcoming album. Addressing her fans, the rapper said, “I’m stressed out hotties. I just came on here to tell you guys about my day really quick cuz I’m going through it.” She revealed that her album, slated for midnight release on June 27, faced an unexpected obstacle involving a track titled “Otaku Hot Girl.”

Megan Thee Stallion explained that she had to rush to her studio to make significant changes to the song due to complications with the anime sample. “The music is what’s really important to me,” she stated, underscoring her dedication to her art despite the hurdles. She expressed gratitude for having the anime sample, describing it as “probably the hardest” to clear.

Initially, when Megan submitted the song, she was informed that she couldn’t cosplay any characters from the anime mentioned in the music video. She agreed to make the necessary adjustments to retain the anime theme in her song. However, a later email from the sample owners demanded the removal of the character names from the song, which Megan felt were integral to the track. “The inclusion of the character names made the song make sense and that it is the whole song,” she explained.

The sample owners offered a difficult choice: clear either the character names or the music, but not both. “The music is what’s really important to me. But the names really tied it all together,” Megan told her fans, highlighting her dilemma. She had to hastily adjust the song in her makeshift studio, hoping her fans would appreciate the final version after she “had to jump through eight million hoops” to get it cleared.

Megan’s love for anime is well-documented through her media appearances and social media posts. She dressed as Satoru Gojo from “Jujutsu Kaisen” at the 2024 Crunchyroll Awards in Tokyo, where she presented the Anime of the Year Award. Additionally, she has cosplayed various anime characters, such as Bruno Bucciarati from “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” and Boa Hancock from “One Piece,” for different events and photoshoots.

Her enthusiasm for anime even extends to her music. In GloRilla’s single “Wanna Be,” Megan references the anime “Attack on Titan” with the lyrics, “I’m the female titan / I’m steppin’ on… I’m showin’ my t**ties / I tore up the city.”

Despite the last-minute changes and the stress involved, Megan Thee Stallion remains committed to delivering an album that reflects her artistic vision. Fans eagerly await the release of her self-titled album, looking forward to how she has incorporated her passion for anime into her music.
