Adam Rippon and Jussi-Pekka Kajaala decided to celebrate New Year’s Eve with an impromptu wedding, unlike most people who partied throughout the night as they bid adieu to 2021.

The American figure skater and Olympic bronze medalist Adam Rippon was engaged to the real estate broker Jussi-Pekka Kajaala. The couple matched on Tinder in 2018 and got engaged last February. The relationship between Rippon and Kajaala has been low-key for years. In an interview on January 20, 2022, Adam Rippon revealed that he was a married man since December 31st, 2021. They secretly tied the knot on New Year’s eve in Los Angeles.
In the same interview, Adam Rippon said that they are unpredictable. Apparently, Rippon thought everyone knew that the wedding would take place. However, nobody knew if they were going to tell them in advance. In addition, Rippon said that even they weren’t sure of giving themselves a heads-up.
According to Jussi-Pekka Kajaala, they chose to get married as they didn’t plan an elaborate celebration for New Year’s Eve. He further revealed that they usually don’t have New year plans and decided to do something unusual for a change. They decided to use the same rings they picked in Finland when they were together in 2020.
Could a wedding be anymore impromptu?
For their wedding, they always wanted a simple affair. Last year Rippon jokingly revealed a “logical and cheap” wedding plan for his fans and followers. It seems the couple actually stuck to the same. Apart from their officiant, no one else had any knowledge about the ceremony. As they explored various options for their wedding, they asked Maria when was she available. Maria was a Californian marriage officiant.
Much to their delight, Maria said that she was available that day itself, and also in the following week. Rippon immediately informed her that they will be in Encino, California by one o’clock. Ultimately, they just wanted to get over with the wedding as soon as possible. Hence, the couple walked down the aisle at Encino, California and the only guest in their wedding was their 4-month-old pitbull mix, Tony
Besides the paperwork, most of the ceremony took place in one of the office suites, complete with an arch entangled with fake flowers and vines. Rippon said that this was all one could get from the dollar store when they knew their wedding was in five minutes. However, it was perfect for them.
After four years of long-distance dating, Jussi-Pekka Kajaala moved to Pasadena last month. As of now, they don’t have any plans for children. However, they see themselves as dog parents. The couple even revealed that they will throw a party for their friends and family once covid is in control.
