Mark Lanegan Dead: Screaming Trees singer Passed away at 57

Mark Lanegan, the singer, and songwriter died at the age of 57. He was not only the frontman of Screaming Trees but also a former member of Queens of the Stone Age. There is little information regarding the cause of his death.

The 57-year-old musician took his last breath on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at his residence in Killarney, Ireland. A statement on ML’s Twitter profile revealed the news of the death of the singer. The statement read that the 57-year-old singer, songwriter, author, and musician died. He was survived by his wife, Shelley. However, no other information as of now is available.

In the Seattle music community, the news of Lanegan’s death quickly like wildfire, causing a flood of tributes.

Mark Lanegan – Career Explored

In the mid-1980s, around the same time that groups like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden came together, Lanegan cofounded Screaming Trees in Ellensburg, Washington. He was known far and wide for his deep, gruff voice. Moreover, from the Pacific Northwest, he was an early pioneer of the grunge movement.

Screaming Trees released its first album in 1986. Despite not reaching the heights of other grunge bands in the ’90s, Screaming Trees hit the top 10 on Billboard’s Modern Rock charts with songs such as “Nearly Lost You” and “All I Know.” The singer-songwriter led a successful solo career during the 1990s, releasing a debut album with Sub Pop Records, which featured a collaboration with Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. As Lanegan revealed in a Rolling Stone interview in 2020, he was struggling with substance abuse and the death of his close friend, Kurt Cobain. Courtney Love intervened after he missed calls from Kurt Cobain before his death, haunting him after missing Cobain’s calls before he threw himself into addiction after his death.

Afterward, he became a member of Queens of the Stone Age. Queens of the Stone Age nominated him for two Grammys after he joined their roster. Lanegan worked with Neko Case and Marianne Faithfull during the last decade, as well as co-writing Anthony Bourdain’s theme song for “Parts Unknown.” The past decade has been prolific for him.

His death has been a shocker to his fans and followers and the entire music community. Fans and celebrities took to Twitter to pay their condolences to the late musician.
