Mark Hamill Done Playing Luke Skywalker: Fans Bid Farewell
4 min readMark Hamill has informed fans that he’s done playing Luke Skywalker. The Star Wars universe keeps expanding, but the 71-year-old won’t be returning in the near future – not even for a flashback scene. From 1977 to 1983, Hamill played the famous Jedi in the original trilogy. He reprised the role in The Rise of Skywalker in 2017. When Luke returned to The Mandalorian’s season two finale, he was de-aged into a younger version of himself. However, the actor was asked if he would consider playing the character again during an interview on CBS News’ Sunday Morning. You never say never, but I just don’t see any reason to, to put it simply,” he said. They don’t need Luke anymore because there are so many stories to tell.
Mark Hamill says he would return to Star Wars if asked, but considers himself retired from the role of Luke Skywalker:

As confirmed by Disney, a new trilogy of Star Wars films will be created, separate from the main story arc of previous films. So far, there is little information about the movies, except that one will follow the founding of the Jedi, and another will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Jedi Rey. Disney describes the events as set after The Rise of Skywalker and focuses on Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. An escalating war between the Imperial Remnant and the New Republic will be the focus of the third film, which will be set in the present day. There is no confirmed release date as of yet. In addition, Disney recently released the first look at Ahsoka, a spin-off series from The Mandalorian, starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, a Togruta female who was Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan and a hero in the Clone Wars.

According To Star Wars Actor Mark Hamill, It’s Time To Say Goodbye To Fan- Favourite Character Luke Skywalker
Mark Hamill says he’s ready to move on from his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars film saga. I had my time, and that’s fine with me. During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, he said that’s enough. Since 1977 when “A New Hope” was released, Hamill has played Luke Skywalker. Most recently, the actor appeared in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Hamill says he has had “enough” of the role, but leaves the door open to continuing it. He does not believe that Luke has more stories left to tell. Never say never, right? He added that he didn’t see any reason to do so. As I see it, they have so many stories to tell that they no longer need Luke. Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm studio exec, confirmed a new series of Star Wars films during the Star Wars Celebration earlier this year. In the film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey. Future films in the franchise will also be directed by James Mangold and Dave Filoni.
Hamill’s Luke could potentially still be involved somehow if it made sense creatively, given that Rey belongs to the Skywalker timeline. Among other Star Wars projects, Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson, will be released on Disney+ in August. Ahsoka investigates a threat to the galaxy following the fall of the Empire. She’s driven by doing good, and her vision is unique. But she sees threats that others don’t. Dawson teased the character at the 2018 London Star Wars Celebration: “Despite not being a Jedi, she has so much of what it means to be one.” The feeling is there, she knows that these foes are not to be taken lightly. Among the other stars of Ashoka are Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Hayden Christensen, who reprises his role as Anakin Skywalker. There are several actors in Skeleton Crew including Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Tunde Adebimpe, Kerry Condon, and Jaleel White.
