Machine Gun Kelly shares his final thoughts on Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and pays tribute to the brightness he brought to so many people.

Kelly was on SirusXM’s Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, promoting his new album, Mainstream Sellout, and reminisced how he and his band spent time hanging out with the Foo Fighters just days before Hawkins’ terrible death.

The Foo Fighters were recalled by Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly was scheduled to perform at Asunciónico 2022 in Paraguay on March 22, alongside the Foo Fighters, and the rocker recalled, “That day was the day the Foo Fighters were going to play with us,” and it would be the first time Dave Grohl and Hawkins had seen Kelly and his band perform live.

The concert was canceled, however, due to a storm that produced some flooding. Kelly made headlines when he decided to put on an impromptu event for fans outside his hotel room, which drew tens of thousands of people.

Regardless, the band was sad that they were unable to perform with the Foo Fighters. Grohl, on the other hand, texted Kelly and invited him and his band to hang out at their hotel. Kelly was concerned when he realized, “There’s like 20 of us!” as they arrived at the motel.

The Foo Fighters, on the other hand, were extremely cordial to his large company, especially Hawkins.

Machine Gun Kelly went on to say that Taylor Hawkins has such a lovely soul. “He gave his heart.”

“The last thing he said to [my drummer] was, ‘I’m just so disappointed I didn’t get to see you guys play,'” says the guitarist. Kelly recalled something. “I’d like to express my gratitude to him and let his children know how he made us feel… Your father [was] a terrific, great man who we were all glad to know, and we were all confident in ourselves and loved.”

When and how did Taylor Hawkins die?

Taylor Hawkins passed away on March 25, less than two days after hanging out with Kelly and his band. Hawkins, who was 50 years old at the time, died in his hotel room in Bogotá, Colombia.

The Foo Fighters were in the middle of a South American tour at the time of his death and were scheduled to perform at the Festival Estereo Picnic in Bogotá.

Foo Fighters’ remaining tour dates were eventually canceled, including their appearance at the 2022 GRAMMY Awards on Sunday.
