Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) has reached an important milestone in his life—celebrating one year of sobriety. The rapper and actor recently opened up about the transformation he’s experienced, citing the powerful effects of self-reflection and the unwavering support of his loved ones as pivotal to his journey. Now, free from the clouded haze of addiction, MGK is embracing a clearer, more intentional approach to life.

In a heartfelt interview with People magazine, Machine Gun Kelly discussed the realization that triggered his path to sobriety. He described stepping outside of himself to gain a fresh perspective on his life, recognizing the need for significant change. “I had to zoom out and take a look at myself from a holistic perspective,” MGK explained. He also acknowledged that his sobriety is now tied to a deeper responsibility—his duty to “be a good man.”

At the core of his recovery process is the practice of self-reflection. MGK admitted that while the journey hasn’t been easy, it has been rewarding. “I find solace in knowing that I can punish myself today so that I can forgive myself tomorrow,” he said, highlighting the mental discipline required to stay on the right path.

The rapper is also motivated by his deep commitment to his 15-year-old daughter, Casie, whom he shares an incredibly close bond with. He emphasized that she, along with his family and friends, serves as a constant reminder of why he chose to turn his life around. “I have a daughter who I love with all my heart and would die for. And I have a beautiful family and a beautiful group of friends and a beautiful life to live for. I’m not in a haze anymore to not realize that,” MGK added.

MGK also delved into the spiritual significance he attaches to his birth date, the 22nd, which he sees as a “master number.” He reflected on the generational issues and “curses” that have impacted his life, stating that he’s been on a quest to understand and break free from the problems passed down to him and his father, who recently passed away.

This milestone of one year sober marks MGK’s first experience with rehab, an experience he now embraces fully. “I don’t drink anymore. I haven’t drunk since last August,” he revealed. He credited much of his strength during this difficult transition to his partner, actress Megan Fox, who has been by his side offering emotional support. “Megan has for sure been extremely helpful in dealing with the kind of psychological withdrawals that come with getting off drugs,” MGK acknowledged.

His story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of taking control of one’s life, even when the obstacles seem insurmountable.
