Lil Nas X’ Impact: How the Artist Helped His Brother Embrace His Bisexuality

Lil Nas X has never been ashamed of his sexuality, and his brother recently stated that the “Panini” rapper also helped him get there. On Saturday (September 9), Nas’ latest documentary Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero opened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). According to Entertainment Weekly, his brother Tramon Hill appears and speaks about the support he’s had from his outspoken sibling over the years. The video primarily follows Lil Nas X on his debut tour, 2022’s Long Live Montero, which featured meetings with Madonna and clashes with homophobic protesters outside his gigs. As previously stated, a bomb threat was made targeting the rapper immediately before the debut, causing it to be delayed by 20 minutes.

According to a person close to the matter, the threat was addressed at Lil Nas X because of his Blackness and sexuality, aimed at him as a Black gay artist. TIFF representatives, on the o ther hand, had a different opinion. “TIFF has been informed by the Toronto Police Service that a police investigation is underway in the surrounding area of the ‘Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero’ screening today,” the festival representative told Variety.” “During this time, our standard safety procedures remained in place, and screening began with a slight delay.” To the best of our understanding, this was a general threat, not aimed at the film or the artist.”The threat was subsequently determined to be untrue. A general release date or outlet for the film has yet to be determined.

When Lil Nas X came out as gay in 2019, he helped revolutionise the landscape for LGBTQIA+ musicians in the music industry, but his decision also impacted a single relationship in his life when he subsequently helped his brother come out as bisexual. In a scene from the Grammy-winning performer’s new documentary Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero, which had its world premiere on Saturday night at the Toronto International Film Festival, Tramon Hill, the 24-year-old “Old Town Road” performer’s brother, reveals that his sibling’s coming-out story prompted him to consider his own identity. “In the movie, Hill says that his brother opened up a lot of doors for people. “He opened a door for me. The thing is, I’m not gay, do you know what I mean? I identify as bisexual. He assisted me in being honest with myself. My brother influenced me to be more open to it.”
Hill subsequently explains that he was worried about losing important relationships in his life because of his sexuality, but Lil Nas X’s advice boosted his confidence. Remove yourself from my presence. “I don’t need you,” Hill adds near the end of the scene’s interview. “At the end of the day, folks will f— with whoever they f— with, therefore cease chasing after a friend.” “A good friend is going to remain there.” Directors Carlos López Estrada and Zac Manuel follow the recording artist as he travels the country on his Long Live Montero tour, hangs out with Madonna as well as his backup dancers, deals with protestors opposing his queer identity outside of shows, vomits backstage at a concert, and reflects on his struggles with coming out to the world and his family. The release date for Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero is unknown, however, it is believed to be in the near future.
