However, the comedian didn’t say anything about Lil Nas X that could be praised. Instead, he made some insensitive jokes about the rapper, including jokes about the rapper’s sexuality. This led to Dave facing backlash on social media as well.

Making a joke about what Lil Nas X might have answered as a child to his teacher, Dave said, “That n**** stood up in front of the whole class….I wanna be the gayest n**** that ever lived”. He even referred to Lil Nas X’s song “Montero,” suggesting that the rapper might have had a similar explicit dream as a child.

While Dave discussed various aspects of Lil Nas X, he concluded his Netflix special by suggesting that the rapper had a failed career. However, upon watching the special, netizens were quick to criticize Dave, with many labeling his comments about the rapper as “homophobic” as well.

After netizens slammed Dave Chappelle for his Netflix special joking about Lil Nas X, the rapper himself took to social media to react. In a post on X on January 3rd, the rapper wrote, “yall gotta let me call by your name go, me and the devil broke up 3 years ago. Y’all acting like children of divorce”.

The rapper’s response was in the context of his song “Montero” and its subtitle “Call Me By Your Name.” In his post, he suggested that Dave should move on from the topic, as it’s been three years since the song was released. Meanwhile, Dave has yet to react to Lil Nas X’s post.
