According to Instagram posts from Russell’s daughter Aoki Lee Simmons and ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons, hip-hop and lifestyle tycoon, Russell Simmons has grown unstable and increasingly aggressive towards his own family. On Monday, Aoki published tense text chats with her father on Instagram Stories, stating that “he’s been awful to me for years.” In one tweet, Simmons implies that Kimora, Aoki’s mother, stole money from him by calling her a “piece of crap.” Text messages show Aoki stating that Simmons only contacts her to shout and curse about his legal difficulties. She released a muted clip of a FaceTime chat during which Simmons rants, apparently furious, and says, “This is not someone who will accept help.”

Simmons, who co-founded Def Jam Recordings in 1984, has recently faced a slew of sexual misconduct and assault allegations. On the Record, a 2020 HBO Max documentary, explores those charges and includes interviews with his accusers. In 2021, Simmons sued Kimora, alleging that she and her then-partner Tim Leissner, a former managing director at Goldman Sachs, misappropriated his shares in a company to pay for a fine Leissner got after pleading guilty to financial crimes. Kimora countersued Simmons and won a $100,000 judgement against him last year.

Russell Simmons’ ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons and daughter Aoki are accusing the defamed Def Jam record boss of harassment and threats, which they claim to be able to verify. Kimora Lee Simmons aired an Instagram Live on Monday (June 19), alleging her ex-husband Russell Simmons of verbally abused their children. This is where it kind of ends, she added. Aoki claimed in her tweets that Simmons has threatened to keep her from having certain fashion jobs, “threatened and bullied” her sister and grandmother, and lashed out at anyone he perceives as not backing him.
She also claimed that he is going through a mental health crisis or “experiencing something like dementia,” because he “acts like he hates and does not know his children frequently.” Simmons was “the best dad ever” before this recent phase, she claimed, and the change has been “terrifying.” Aoki appeared to indicate that she would have to block Simmons for the time being, implying that she needed to cut relations with him. In her most recent Instagram Story, she added a nice photo of Simmons holding her as a small kid and wrote, “I did the best that I could, anyway I’m out of here.” Russell Simmons resolved a $5 million lawsuit filed by Jennifer Jarosik, who claimed he sexually assaulted her after she denied his advances, in April 2018. Jarosik’s complaint was dismissed with prejudice, which means she can’t refile, according to TMZ. A settlement between Jarosik and Simmons follows almost a dozen additional allegations of sexual misconduct and rape against Simmons. The disgraced rap mogul is currently on a Yogi retreat in Bali.
