Kelly Clarkson has initiated legal action against her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, for the second time, following her previous victory in a $2.6 million ruling against him last year.

In her latest complaint filed in Los Angeles on Monday, Kelly Clarkson accuses Brandon Blackstock and his father Narvel Blackstock’s management company, Starstruck Entertainment, of violating California labor laws, particularly the Talent Agencies Act. The lawsuit alleges that they operated as an “unlicensed talent agency,” arranging business deals on Clarkson’s behalf dating back to 2007. Clarkson seeks to declare all agreements between the parties void and to recover all payments made to Starstruck, including commissions, fees, profits, and advances.

This lawsuit marks a continuation of Clarkson’s legal battle with Blackstock, who was previously found to have acted unlawfully in a November 2023 ruling. The ruling stated that Blackstock should not have been involved in deals for “The Voice,” Norwegian Cruise Lines, Wayfair, and the Billboard Music Awards. Under California labor laws, only licensed talent agents are authorized to negotiate employment deals for their clients.

While Brandon Blackstock is appealing the previous decision, Clarkson’s new lawsuit covers a period of 10 additional years, potentially weakening his position. His lawyer criticized Clarkson’s actions, arguing that it is unjust to demand repayment from an ex-husband who used his earnings to support their family during their marriage.

The legal dispute between Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock extends back to 2020 when Starstruck sued Clarkson for unpaid commissions. Clarkson’s recent lawsuit seeks to reclaim commissions and fees dating back to 2007, covering the entirety of her association with Blackstock’s management company.

Despite their legal battles, Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock finalized their divorce in 2022, with Clarkson ordered to pay significant sums in spousal and child support. The couple shares two children, and Clarkson has been open about the challenges their divorce has posed for their family.

Kelly Clarkson, an American Idol champion, Grammy winner, and talk show host, shares daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 7, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020 after seven years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce settlement took two years to finalize, amid a custody and legal battle over their children and their Montana ranch.

Since his divorce from Kelly Clarkson, Brandon Blackstock has transitioned from the music industry to become a full-time rancher, managing his own cattle ranch. The couple’s separation was reportedly prompted by their demanding work schedules, with Blackstock serving as the executive producer of Clarkson’s show and her manager.

As Kelly Clarkson continues to navigate her post-divorce life, her legal actions against Brandon Blackstock underscore the complexities and financial implications of their separation. The lawsuit represents her determination to protect her interests and seek redress for alleged violations of labor laws.
