Kaytranada, the acclaimed producer and DJ, recently found himself at the center of a social media storm after comments he made about Beyoncé were perceived as criticism by her dedicated fanbase. The controversy erupted following an interview with Vulture, where Kaytranada mentioned that Beyoncé had lowballed him in a collaboration request, sparking outrage among her fans.

In the interview, Kaytranada revealed that Beyoncé had expressed interest in acquiring the rights to his remix of her hit song “Cuff It.” However, the deal never materialized, leading Kaytranada to comment, “Sometimes people don’t see your worth and how important you are. I know what I mean to people.” His statement was interpreted by many as a slight against the superstar, and the backlash was swift and intense on social media.

As the criticism mounted, Kaytranada took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to address the situation and clarify his intentions. In a post that has since been deleted, he explained, “Mannnn I didn’t drag her that’s just what happened. The remix didn’t get a release and it is what it is, but later that year I opened [for] her on tour AND on her Bday on top of that. Now what? I love that girl & y’all ain’t gonna make me look like I ain’t rocking with her.” With this clarification, Kaytranada aimed to dispel any notions that he harbored ill will towards Beyoncé, emphasizing his admiration for her and their continued professional relationship.

This isn’t the first time Kaytranada has opened up about a high-profile collaboration that didn’t pan out. In a previous interview with Montreality, he discussed how a potential project with Drake never came to fruition. According to Kaytranada, Drake had expressed interest in having him contribute to his album Honestly, Nevermind, which featured house music influences that align with Kaytranada’s signature style. However, despite the initial interest, the collaboration never moved forward. Kaytranada explained, “I met Drake in L.A. one time, and that was it, really. At one point, one of his boys was like, ‘Your boy wants some beats. He’s gonna do a house album.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, sure, hit me up.’ That’s my thing: anybody that wanna work with me, just hit me up. Maybe my reaction rubbed them the wrong way, but I was just saying, ‘Hey, if you’re serious, hit me up, let’s work, for real.’”

Kaytranada also referenced the Drake situation in his interview with Vulture, adding, “Was I supposed to be like, ‘Oh my God, for real? Drake?’ I’m not like that.” His nonchalant attitude toward the possibility of working with major artists underscores his confidence in his own worth and his belief that mutual respect is essential for successful collaborations.

Despite the misunderstandings and missed opportunities, Kaytranada continues to thrive in the music industry, where his unique sound and artistic vision have earned him a dedicated following. His ability to navigate the ups and downs of high-profile collaborations speaks to his resilience and commitment to his craft. As he continues to make waves in the industry, fans can expect more groundbreaking work from the talented producer, whether or not it involves the biggest names in music.
