Katy Perry echoes American Idol fans’ sentiments for the victims of gun violence

Trey Louis, a 21-year-old mattress salesman from Santa Fe, Texas, appeared on this week’s episode of American Idol.

Moreover, he went on to honor his hometown Santa Fe by singing a smokey rendition of Stone by Whiskey Myers.

If you didn’t know, the town earned an infamous reputation following a school shooting incident in 2018.

Meanwhile, all three judges of the reality show gave Louis a standing ovation after his performance.

In addition, they later asked him why he decided to debut in the reality competition. Louis revealed that his experience with the school shooting in Santa Fe motivated him to audition.

Meanwhile, Louis shared that a gunman walked into Santa Fe High School on 18th May 2018. The attacker ended up taking the lives of eight students and two teachers.

He explained that while he made it out alive, he lost a bunch of his friends during the incident and the town gained a bad reputation.

Besides that, this led to the judges having an emotional outburst with Katy Perry delivering an expletive-riddled tirade about gun control while she continued to sob.

She said, ‘Our country has f***ing failed us. This is not okay. You should be singing here because you love music. Not because you had to go through that. You didn’t have to lose eight friends.’

The Fireworks singer added, ‘I hope that you remind people that we have to team. Coz you know what? I’m scared too.’
