Justin Timberlake’ recent arrest for driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor has taken an unexpected turn with reports that the pop icon was indulging in a James Bond-inspired cocktail before his encounter with the law. According to sources cited by the Daily Beast, the 43-year-old singer enjoyed a Vesper Martini at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, a potent concoction famously linked to the suave secret agent.

Justin Timberlake, who reportedly “refused” to take a breathalyzer test following his arrest, allegedly ordered the Vesper Martini, a drink that is “all alcohol” with no mixers. The classic cocktail includes Grey Goose vodka, Tanqueray gin, Lillet Blanc wine aperitif, and a twist of lemon rind, making it a powerful libation that packs a punch.

As detailed by cocktail blogger Moody Mixologist, the Vesper Martini is “not for the faint of heart,” typically containing a robust “4 ounces of liquor.” The blogger emphasized the drink’s strength, stating, “It’s safe to say that the level of alcohol in this martini is equivalent to a double of just about any other cocktail. So please keep that in mind when mixing one up.”

After being pulled over for allegedly running a stop sign, Justin Timberlake claimed he had consumed only “one martini.” He declined to take a breathalyzer and subsequently “performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.” His refusal to cooperate with the breath test led to a single charge of DWI.

The Vesper Martini gained fame from its mention in Ian Fleming’s 1953 novel “Casino Royale,” where James Bond specifies its preparation: “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel.” The cocktail, named after Bond’s romantic interest Vesper Lynd, saw a resurgence in popularity following its portrayal in the 2006 film adaptation starring Daniel Craig and Eva Green.

Witnesses at the American Hotel reported that Timberlake was visibly intoxicated, allegedly drinking from other patrons’ tables and muttering, “This is going to ruin the tour,” before being arrested. One eyewitness noted that the arresting officer “was so young that he didn’t even know” Timberlake.

Currently on a world tour, Justin Timberlake faces significant legal repercussions from the incident. His lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., informed Us Weekly that Timberlake entered a not-guilty plea to the DUI charge. The potential penalties could include fines and a license suspension rather than jail time if convicted. Additionally, Timberlake was cited for running a stop sign and not traveling in the correct traffic lane.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Timberlake’s case serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of driving under the influence, even for a superstar. The incident has undoubtedly cast a shadow over his tour, raising questions about the pressures and challenges faced by celebrities in the public eye.
