Actor Justin Baldoni is at the center of a heated controversy involving Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, with allegations of fat-shaming sparking a cascade of legal battles and personal accusations. Baldoni, known for his roles in Hollywood dramas, has filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times over an article that he claims misrepresents his interactions with Lively and portrays him in a defamatory light.
The lawsuit, filed on December 31, 2024, in Los Angeles Superior Court, targets the Times’ December 21 article titled “We Can Bury Anyone: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine.” Justin Baldoni alleges that the piece, which delves into Lively’s accusations of sexual harassment and a supposed smear campaign, relied heavily on “unverified and self-serving” narratives provided by Lively.

One focal point of the controversy is Baldoni’s alleged comment during a rehearsal, in which he reportedly asked Lively about her weight to ensure he could safely perform a lift scene without exacerbating his back problems. According to Baldoni, this comment was misinterpreted by Lively’s husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, leading to a confrontation at the couple’s New York penthouse.
In his lawsuit, Justin Baldoni described Reynolds’ reaction as “aggressively berating,” claiming the encounter forced him to repeatedly apologize to avoid escalating tensions. The document further alleges that Lively refused to perform the scene despite having rehearsed it with a stunt double.
Adding to the turmoil, Blake Lively officially filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Baldoni on the same day he sued the Times. Lively’s accusations include claims of inappropriate behavior and a coordinated effort to damage her reputation after she went public with her allegations.
In response to Baldoni’s claims, a spokesperson for The New York Times defended the publication’s reporting, describing it as “meticulous and responsible.” The newspaper has vowed to “vigorously defend” itself against the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Baldoni’s legal team, led by attorney Bryan Freedman, is preparing a countersuit against Lively, asserting that it will present “real evidence” to refute her allegations and reveal the truth behind the dispute.
As legal battles between Baldoni, Lively, and the Times intensify, this high-profile drama continues to captivate public attention, promising further revelations and courtroom drama in the weeks to come.
