Johnny Depp wins over Amber Heard as judge rejects her bid to throw out his defamation suit
2 min readJohnny Depp lost the libel case against The Sun Newspaper over the claims of him beating Amber Heard. The newspaper claimed him to be a “wife-beater” and was in favor of Amber Heard. Depp was fighting a two- years old defamation lawsuit case against Ex-wife Amber Heard. A Virginia judge decided to take the court case to another trial next year.
Heard’s motion to close or dismiss the case was rejected by Chief Judge Penney Azcarate, Fairfox Country. Heard has tried dismissing the case three times since March 2019, according to the reports of USA Today. The London Judge said that the “wife-beater” quotation was not libelous. Most of Amber Heard’s claims of domestic abuse were mainly “civil standard”.
Heard was not a part of the London Lawsuit, but she was a witness for The Sun – thus her requests for dismissal of the court lawsuit failed under government rules. All these dismissals for Heard create a great win for Depp in his ongoing war with his Ex-wife. The lawsuits and cases started in 2016 during the couple’s divorce in California. The cases are still ongoing and will continue for the next 2-3 years, according to the new trial dates.
The case is scheduled for trial on April 11, 2022, in Fairfax County, Virginia’s largest and most populous county located in suburban Washington, D.C. Both sides will resume discovery proceedings, such as taking depositions, including Heard’s. The Virginia case started when Heard in an article claimed that she is now a public face of domestic abuse because of Johnny Depp.
A few months later, Johnny Depp filed a case of “false allegations” and asked for $50 million in damages. He accused Heard of using him to get her career in line and to get public sympathy and recognition. Heard also filed for restraining orders against Johnny Depp and claimed that he threw a mobile phone on her face at their Los Angeles loft.
Depp is denying all these allegations and the Los Angeles Police has also not found any evidence related to any abuse. Amber also claimed that she will be donating the divorce proceedings to a charity.
