A source close to the production of the show has recently revealed that Johnny Depp is set to make a surprise appearance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Furthermore, the source also mentioned that Depp is in talks to sport the Moonman mascot of the network at the event.
To put it simply, the 59-year-old star might don the suit of a silver astronaut statue that winners are awarded at the VMAs.
According to the source, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is ‘really excited’ about his appearance at the award show. Moreover, Depp is ‘ready for his comeback.’
Although Depp is not nominated for any awards, he had bagged five Moonmen statues throughout his career. He won awards for Best Male Performance, Best Villain, Global Superstar, and the Generation Award in 2012.
News of Depp’s possible appearance comes months after he won the controversial defamation trial against his former wife Amber Heard. It will also mark his first on-camera appearance since the victory.
A jury in Virginia announced Heard guilty for defaming Depp in piece she wrote in 2018 claiming domestic and sexual violence. The 36-year-old actress is ordered to pay him $15 million.
Moreover, Depp will don the cap of a director for an upcoming biopic film based on Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

The MTV Video Music Awards is scheduled to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It will kick off on 28th August Sunday at 8 pm.
According to recent reports, the award show will be presented by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow.
The Super Bass rapper will also perform at the event and will receive the Video Vanguard Award. The Red Hot Chili Peppers will take home the 2022 Global Icon Award.
Meanwhile, Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X scored the most nominations with seven nods. Doja Cat and Harry Styles on the other hand are nominated for six awards. Additionally, Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd scored five nominations.
Lizzo, BLACKPINK, Måneskin, Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic! At The Disco will supposedly perform at this year’s ceremony.
