Joe Trohman, the founding guitarist of Fall Out Boy, is back from a mental health break he began earlier this year. Trohman announced on Monday that he would be returning to the stage after taking a four-month break to care for his mental health. Hello everyone, I’m officially back! he wrote. During my time away from my family, friends and myself to focus on my brain and get healthy, I want to thank everyone for their love and support. During his absence, Trohman thanked former Linkin Park and Deftones guitarist Ben Young, calling him “a true gentleman and a scholar.”

I am thrilled to be back on the stage, Trohman continued, I look forward to seeing everyone this summer on tour! The news that Trohman was leaving the band came shortly after Fall Out Boy released a new single, “Love From The Other Side,” and announced a March 24 release date for its eighth studio album, “So Much (for) Stardust.” Especially since the band — bassist Pete Wentz, drummer Andy Hurley and frontman Patrick Stump — had just released a new album, Trohman said it was not a decision he made lightly. However, he assured fans he would “absolutely, one-hundred per cent” return to the pop-punk group he helped establish in Wilmette, Ill., in 2001.

Fall Out Boy Guitarist Joe Trohman Has Returned After Stepping Away Because Of Mental Health Concerns

After taking a five-month mental health break, Joe Trohman is returning to Fall Out Boy. Announcing the news on Instagram, the guitarist and founding member, 38, wrote, Hey everyone, I’m back! Thank you all for the love and support over the last few months while I focused on my brain and got healthy for myself, my family, and my friends. Additionally, I would like to thank Ben Young for filling in on the shows I missed. He is a gentleman and scholar, he said. The musician added that he will be joining his band for their next tour. Looking forward to seeing everyone on tour this summer! It’s going to be great to be back in action! They’ll kick off their North American tour on June 21 in Chicago. Additional shows will be held in Europe and Japan later on. Trohman announced his departure from the group hours after the announcement of their eighth studio album So Much (For) Stardust. While he didn’t elaborate, he had revealed on Instagram that he was taking a break from the band to work on his mental health. They also made headlines earlier that month when it was revealed that Kim Kardashian starred in the video for their 2007 hit Thnks Fr The Mrs.

Neil Young once proclaimed that it would be better to burn out than to fade away. I can tell you unambiguously that burning out is awful, Trohman said. I have been suffering from a rapidly deteriorating mental health condition for several years now, he said, without divulging all details. As a result, I will be taking a break from work, which unfortunately includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a while,’ Trohman explained. The decision is hard to make, especially when we are about to release an album that I am very proud of (the sin I am most proud of). So, the question is: Will I return? He clarified that it was absolutely true, 100 per cent. Meanwhile, I must recover, which means putting my mental health first,’ he said. The whole band, as well as my family, has been understanding and respectful of this difficult, but necessary decision. Smell you sooner rather than later, Joe Trohman he concluded. On the same day, the band announced their eighth studio album, So Much (For Stardust). They also performed the album’s first track on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The album was released on March 24. Stump explained they went back to their roots with their first album on their new label Fueled by Ramen and Elektra.
