Joe Rogan Rejects Kamala Harris Podcast Terms, Seeks Open Conversation Instead
3 min readJoe Rogan, host of the popular podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience,” recently revealed that he turned down an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris due to restrictive conditions set by her campaign. According to Rogan, Harris’s team asked him to travel to her location and limit the discussion to a single hour—both of which he found counter to the open, extended format of his podcast.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Rogan shared his perspective on the situation, writing, “They offered a date for Tuesday, but I would have to travel to her, and they only wanted to do an hour. I strongly feel the best way to do it is in the studio in Austin.” He noted, however, that her campaign hasn’t completely closed the door on the interview. The potential discussion has captured significant public attention, especially following Rogan’s recent three-hour episode with former President Donald Trump, which quickly amassed over 37 million views on YouTube.
Also, for the record the Harris campaign has not passed on doing the podcast. They offered a date for Tuesday, but I would have had to travel to her and they only wanted to do an hour. I strongly feel the best way to do it is in the studio in Austin. My sincere wish is to just…

Trump, in his interview with Rogan, took a humorous jab at the idea of Harris sitting for the type of intensive interview Rogan is known for. “Can you imagine Kamala doing this show?” Trump joked. “She’d be lying on the floor, saying, ‘Call in the medics.’” While Trump’s comment added a lighter element to the discussion, Rogan took a more serious approach, expressing his genuine interest in connecting with Harris beyond typical campaign talking points.
Rogan clarified that his goal was to foster a conversation with the Vice President as “a human being.” He explained, “I would try to have a conversation with her and hopefully get to know her as a human being. I wouldn’t try to interview her; I’d just try to have a conversation with her.” Rogan reiterated that he believes this more relaxed, extended style of engagement would allow Harris to show a side of herself that often goes unseen in formal political settings.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and frequent Rogan podcast guest, supported Rogan’s stance, replying to his post with, “Good clarification. I would definitely watch that podcast.” Other fans echoed similar sentiments, with one user on X saying, “America deserves 3 hrs with Kamala and Joe Rogan unscripted. Hope it happens and she stops trying to dictate the terms.” Another pointed out that former President Trump had participated in Rogan’s open format, suggesting Harris should do the same.
Good clarification. I would definitely watch that podcast. Hour 2 would be 🫠

Rumors had been circulating for weeks about ongoing negotiations between Rogan and Harris’s campaign to arrange the interview. Rogan, however, decided to withdraw from discussions given the campaign’s conditions, underscoring that he wouldn’t compromise his show’s established format. He has indicated that if Harris is open to a more informal and extended conversation, he would still welcome her on the show.
For now, though, the question of a Harris appearance on Rogan’s podcast remains unanswered. Rogan’s willingness to create an open platform contrasts with the constraints some political figures may prefer, yet his fans remain hopeful for the prospect of an unfiltered discussion with Harris. Whether Harris’s campaign will revisit the opportunity remains to be seen, but Rogan’s dedication to preserving the conversational integrity of his show is clear.
