Jim Hagedorn, the representative of Minnesota GOP succumbed to kidney cancer on February 18, 2022. His wife revealed the news of the 59-year-old Congressman’s demise.

Jim Hagedorn Dies Due To Cancer

Jim Hagedorn, the 59-year-old representative for Minnesota died of kidney cancer on Friday, February 18, 2022. His wife, former Minnesota State GOP chair Jennifer Carnahan took to Facebook to reveal the news of his death.

In February 2019, just six weeks after being elected to his first term, Jim Hagedorn was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. After undergoing surgery at the Mayo Clinic and receiving immunotherapy treatments, he announced publicly his diagnosis in February 2020. He suffered a recurrence of his cancer in July 2021. Upon receiving a second diagnosis, Hagedorn vowed to continue serving the people of Minnesota and serving the nation.

Also in January, he even tested positive for COVID. However, he claimed that he was vaccinated and experienced only mild symptoms of the illness.

The 59-year-old passed away while he was asleep on Friday after losing his battle for life.

Jim Hagedorn – Career Explored

Jim Hagedorn worked as a newspaper delivery boy, mowed lawns, and taught tennis during his high school days in order to save for college and fund his first automobile. He then worked as a busboy and salesman at the age of 18 to pay for his college education. Jim Hagedorn graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics.

Jim Hagedorn’s career began as a legislative assistant to Republican Congressman Arlan Stangeland of Minnesota’s Seventh District in 1984. During his tenure as Congressman, Hagedorn managed the bipartisan workfare bill that he stewarded. After Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives in 1994, the bill became law.

The people elected him to represent Minnesota’s First District in 2018. Hagedon has served as its representative ever since then. January 3, 2019, marked the day he took the oath of office as a member of the US House of Representatives. Additionally, he served on the House Committee on Agriculture and Small Business to support agriculture, small businesses, and the rural lifestyle of southern Minnesota.

Hagedorn grew up in Truman, Minnesota on a farm as part of a family rich in a farming tradition. His parents were Tom and Kathleen Hagedorn who was born in Blue Earth, Minnesota in 1962. Following his election to Congress in 1974 to represent southern Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, Hagedorn’s family moved to Washington and Minnesota.

He tied the knot with Jennifer Carnahan in 2018. Her husband was the “strongest conservative” in the family and loved his country and serving the people of southern Minnesota, according to Carnahan’s emotional tribute. Furthermore, she mentioned that Hagedorn lived his dream every day by serving others.
