The shocking news about Jerry Douglas is spreading over the Internet gradually. The popular actor who played the role of John Abbott in the series “The Young and the Restless”, died by suffering from illness. Jay Douglas was an 88-year-old star who passed away in Los Angeles on 9th November. Being a lead character of CBS’ top TV series for over 30 years Jerry Douglas has Gained huge popularity over the world. He was like the backbone of The Young and the Restless series.

Jerry Douglas was born on 12th November 1932 in Chelsea, Massachusetts. With a Degree in Economics in hand, Douglas graduated from Brandeis University. After completing his higher education, he switched his career to acting. He was also working as a screenwriter and playwright. He joined John O’Connell and created successful projects. According to the sources, he was also fond of playing golf and was an avid rider.

Douglas was involved in logging TV guest shorts, in the 1960s, on series such as the untouchables and the Donna Reed show. Some of his other credits are the Rockford Files, Gunsmoke, Combat, Bonanza, Land of the Giants, Ironside, Mannix, Mission: Impossible, the FBI, The Rookies, S.W.A.T, and the Quincy. He also holds credits for movie roles that include Oliver stone’s JFK, Avalanche, the Godson, Head Over Spurs in Love, and Mommies Dearest.

He had worked for the Bionic woman, Barnaby Jones, and the streets of San Francisco to Arrested Development, Cold Case, and Melrose Place. Jerry Douglas was cast in the Young and the Restless series from 1982 to 2006. In this series, his character John Abbott died but still, he appeared in the series as a ghost to guide his children.  Therefore, we can say that he was regular in offering service to this series. The flashbacks also show the character, John Abbott, regularly.

CBS’s daytime soap “The Young and the Restless” completed 20,000 episodes, last year. The Young and the Restless’ Producer, Anthony Morina, said in an interview that, “Jerry came to the young and the restless series in 1982 with an impressive resume of credits. Our show was lucky to have a lead actor like him, who joined the cast with a solid calibre that introduced the viewers to the iconic Abbott family. His service to the legacy of Y&R as John Abbott is memorable to date. We will miss him.”
