Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Gets Ken Jennings’s Attention After Another Record Break
3 min readOn Monday, Matt Amodio resumed his “Jeopardy!” game win streak, shattering just another program milestone.
Last week’s action saw the Ph.D. candidate from New Haven, Connecticut, surpass James Holzhauer as that of the player with the second-most wins in a row in the game’s existence. With 33 victories just at time — now 35 — Amodio is legally second just to Ken Jennings, who really leads with 74 victories.
Nevertheless, a play Amodio took during Tuesday’s episode of Final Jeopardy drew the attention of the show’s monarch on Twitter.
Matt Amodio wrapped out the program on Tuesday with a high-stakes Final Jeopardy play that paid off handsomely, giving him the largest single-day total wins in “Jeopardy!” ever. According to Yahoo, while earning $41,800 than the next highest competitor, he bid a huge $37,000 on the final clue, potentially costing him not just a tournament but also his winning streak.
However, he provided the solution right, and he proceeded to win $83,000 in only one session.
Ken Jennings on Matt Amodio’s win
“Jeopardy!” supporters swiftly flocked to Twitter to applaud the bold choice and applaud the record-breaking winner, like they always have. The greatest award, though, came in the form of a modest one-word tweet from Jennings, the host of “Jeopardy!”
He commented, “Woah,” in the comments section of a press release announcing the major triumph. In addition, Amodio remarked, “If only I could get that Ken Jennings scent out of the #Jeopardy winner’s platform.”
When asked regarding finishing second to the famed “Jeopardy!” player, Amodio stated because he has a tremendous amount of admiration for him.
“To me, Ken will always be the face of ‘Jeopardy!,’ so I picture about him when I hear of ‘Jeopardy!,'” Amodio remarked. “It’s a weird sensation to be directly next to him.” Matt Amodio might be a participant in the program when Jennings is the presenter if his lucky run extends. In September, it was announced that Jennings would share a guest host with Mayim Bialik this season as the series searches for a new regular host after the uproar surrounding Mike Richards’ departure.
What is Jeopardy!?
“Jeopardy!” is a traditional television show with a modern touch. The participants provide the queries and the solutions are delivered first. Three candidates participate in 6 groups and three rounds (for each round’s “answers” garnering additional cash prize), along with the preceding show’s winner.
The players can select their personal reward in the final game, “Final Jeopardy,” as providing as it is within the sum of money they’ve actually gained. A contestant is disqualified from “Final Jeopardy” if they complete the final game with no money. Art Fleming presented the first season of “Jeopardy!” on NBC, which aired from 1964 through 1975. Alex Trebek first appeared on the show in 1984.
