Kanye West and Talib Kweli, who were once collaborators, have been at odds for some time now. They are no longer close friends and have been at odds for many years now.
During an interview for Drink Champs, Donda made comments concerning Talib that did not sit well with the New York rapper.
“I’m sorry to all the backpack community,” Ye replied in the interview in regard to Talib’s music. Ye said that being from the streets but having never killed anyone. “It was just easier for me to pose like a backpacker, but I actually love street n***as and don’t really listen to backpack music.”
For those not familiar, backpack rappers are those rappers who rap about real issues. Commercial rappers are more likely to focus on topics like money and fame than underground rappers.
A triggered Talib used his Instagram to share a snippet from the interview and referred to Kanye as a ‘poser.
Posers are people who act like someone who is not who they really are.
The Get By rapper previously aimed another dig at Kanye by posting a series of images on Instagram with the caption: “Kanye West Ghostwriter Appreciation post.”
The story of how the rappers became collaborators
Fans were able to read about Talib Kweli’s relationship with Kanye West in his 2021 memoir.
The Never Been In Love rapper discusses how he met Ye in a snippet of the book released by GQ. The following is exactly what he wrote: “One night, as we recorded the album, Kanye walked into the studio looking for Yasiin Bey.”
According to him, he had invited Kanye, who he had never met, to wait for him. Talib asked Kanye to play some of the tracks he produced after he mentioned that he produced. Talib’s jaw dropped when he played that CD.
A couple of Kanye’s tracks from the night made it to Talib’s studio album Quality, including Good to You and Guerrilla Monsoon Rap.
As the rapper further explains, Kanye made some of the best beats in hip hop by collaborating with artists all over the world.
