Here is everything you need to know.
James Gunn reveals that Superman: Legacy has been in the works for months
DC Studios co-head James Gunn is clarifying yet another rumor about Superman: Legacy.
For the unversed, it was reported in October 2022 that Gunn and Peter Safran would be the new heads at DC Studios.
Moreover, it was followed by Henry Cavill’s cameo in Black Adam. In addition, it was announced that he would return as the Man of Steel in more upcoming movies.
However, controversy ensued when Cavill stated that his return to the role is not moving forward. Additionally, he revealed that Gunn and Safran had a different plan set for that character in their new DCU.
But Gunn recently admitted that the idea of a Superman reboot did not come into his mind when he got hired for DC in October.
Subsequently, the filmmaker talked about the beginning of Superman: Legacy in response to a fan enquiring about its foundation.
He simply confirmed, ‘I was hired to write Superman Legacy over six months ago.’
Hence, in other words, Superman: Legacy was already in the works before Cavill’s brief return to the role.
Meanwhile, the new movie is reported to be separate from Zack Snyder’s films as well as Cavill’s version of the character.
James Gunn claims Henry Cavill was not fired from the Warner Brothers
James Gunn recently clapped back at the social media users who say that he and Peter Safran ‘fired’ Henry Cavill from his Superman role.
He went on to point out that the 39-year-old actor was not hired by them to begin with.
Besides that, he noted, ‘We didn’t fire Henry. Henry was never cast.’
Gunn added, ‘For me, it’s about who do I want to cast as Superman and who do the filmmakers we have want to cast. And for me, for this story, it isn’t Henry.’
He claimed, ‘I like Henry, I think he’s a great guy. I think he’s getting d***ed around by a lot of people, including the former regime at this company. But this Superman is not Henry, for a number of reasons.’
Meanwhile, no one has yet been cast for Superman: Legacy. However, the film is set to release on theatre screens on 11th July 2025.
