Streamer Jack Doherty is under fire after issuing a public apology to his cameraman, Michael, following a viral car accident. The incident, which took place on October 5, 2024, saw Doherty crash his McLaren while Michael was in the passenger seat. The accident quickly gained attention due to footage showing Doherty using his phone while driving in wet conditions, which many blamed for the crash. His response to the situation has only fueled the controversy.

In the aftermath, the way Jack Doherty handled the situation drew harsh criticism. While his cameraman was bleeding, Doherty handed him the camera and instructed him to record the crash site. This action sparked outrage, with FaZe Rug labeling the former Kick streamer as selfish, accusing him of caring more about his car than his injured friend.

The following day, on October 6, Doherty took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a public apology to Michael. However, his attempt at reconciliation was not well-received. Several social media users felt his apology was insincere, with some suggesting that Michael should take legal action against Doherty. One user remarked, “Your cameraman should sue you, and they should lock you up and throw away the key.” Another slammed Doherty for being a danger to society, saying, “You shouldn’t be able to stream anymore.”

Popular Kick streamer LosPollosTV echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the recklessness of using a phone while speeding in the rain. Many other users on X shared similar views, criticizing Doherty for prioritizing filming over helping his injured cameraman.

Despite the backlash, Doherty claimed to have learned a “huge lesson” from the incident. In his post, he expressed gratitude for surviving the crash and thanked first responders. He also hinted at a more detailed update, stating that he would release a follow-up post soon. However, it remains unclear whether his apology was directed at the injuries Michael sustained or at the fact that he asked him to continue filming while bleeding.

The accident resulted in significant damage to Doherty’s McLaren, which had to be towed away from the scene. Despite taking Michael to the hospital for treatment, Doherty’s actions, both during and after the accident, have drawn widespread condemnation.

The backlash escalated after Jack Doherty was permanently banned from Kick following the accident. While streaming live at the time of the crash, Doherty was filmed interacting with his live chat while driving on a wet road. Moments later, he lost control of the car, crashing into a guardrail and leaving Michael injured. This reckless behavior has sparked outrage among the streaming community, with several prominent creators calling for further action.

Twitch streamer and 100 Thieves founder Nadeshot went as far as to suggest Doherty deserves jail time, stating, “This guy deserves jail time
I’m not a fan of cancel culture, but this kid needs to be demonetized from every platform.” Meanwhile, Kick co-owner Adin Ross expressed his frustration, particularly over the way Michael was treated, even offering support to the injured cameraman.

Doherty’s actions have also reignited criticism of his content, which has been controversial in the past. In August, he faced backlash for hitting baseballs off a tall building, with viewers labeling his behavior as dangerous and irresponsible.

As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether Jack Doherty’s apology and future statements will help repair his public image or further fuel the backlash against him.
