Lea Michele is forced to pull out from today’s performance of the Broadway show Funny Girl after she sustained a back injury.

Lea Michele misses her Funny Girlfriend performance 

Lea Michele took to her official Instagram account on 11th November, Friday night to share the unfortunate news with her fans and followers.

She wrote, ‘Hey everyone. Unfortunately, I will be out of Funny Girl tonight. I hurt my back and my doctor is requiring me to rest tonight or else I would be there. I will be back tomorrow. Love to all.’

Moreover, the 35-year-old actress’ message comes two hours ahead of the performance. However, she did promise to return to the stage tomorrow.

The official team behind the production of Funny Girl confirmed the news on Twitter. They further revealed that understudy Julie Benko will replace Michele and take the stage tonight. Subsequently, they offered their support to their leading lady.

The statement read, ‘Sending all of our healing wishes to Lea Michele, who will be out of tonight’s performance. The amazing Julie Benko (@jujubee) will be on as Fanny!’

Lea Michele talks about her experience in Broadway’s Funny Girl

Lea Michele is currently starring as the protagonist and comedienne Fanny Brice in a Broadway revival of Funny Girl. 

Regardless, she is best known for her role as ambitious wannabe Broadway star Rachel Berry on the Fox TV hit series, Glee.

Besides that, Michele explained that she is enjoying starring in the classic musical that includes standards like ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ along with ‘I’m the Greatest Star.’

She shared, ‘I’m loving living in the bubble that is the safe home and space of this theatre and this cast.’

In addition, she continued, ‘If I did not know and feel the support that I have from everyone, this would be very scary for me. I’m literally having the time of my life.’

The new version follows a girl who becomes one of the most beloved Broadway performers despite everyone telling her that she will never be a star.

Meanwhile, Michele has received positive reviews from publications like Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter following her debut on Funny Girl in September at the August Wilson Theatre.

The New York Times wrote, ‘Lea Michele, who took over the role on Sept. 6, turns out to be that stupendous Fanny.’

The article further reads, ‘Yes, she even lights up like a light. Both vulnerable and invulnerable, kooky and ardent, she makes the show worth watching again.’
