Ice Spice Criticized for Short Set After Late Arrival at Wildlands Festival
3 min readIce Spice faced backlash following her headlining performance at the Wildlands Festival in Australia on New Year’s Eve. The rapper, known for hits like Munch and Deli, arrived 25 minutes late for her set and performed only two songs before leaving the stage. Australian podcaster Brenton Larney, who attended the festival on December 31, expressed his disappointment over the situation.
Audience Disappointment
Larney described the crowd’s frustration after waiting nearly half an hour for Ice Spice to appear. Speaking to The Guardian, he shared that the festival organizers cut the mic at 11:01 pm, allowing her only a minute beyond the scheduled cutoff time. “They gave her an extra minute … and then they cut the mic. You heard the collective sigh from the crowd,” he recounted.
Larney criticized Ice Spice for her attitude during the performance, adding, “It was a bit ridiculous and really disrespectful how she walked off. She was laughing as they tried to give her flowers for her birthday, and she just shrugged them off.”

According to Larney, Ice Spice’s set lasted only six minutes. Another attendee, Mia Sims from Gold Coast, noted the additional frustration of waiting over an hour pressed together in the crowd for what turned out to be a very brief performance. Sims also remarked that the rapper didn’t perform her most popular songs and didn’t issue an apology for the delay on social media.
Wildlands Festival Addresses the Incident
Although Wildlands Festival did not respond directly to media inquiries, they acknowledged the situation on Instagram. “We understand that Ice Spice’s delayed arrival caused some frustration,” the post read. The organizers explained their need to stick to strict set times due to a curfew, ensuring the NYE countdown act, Chase & Status, could perform as scheduled.

The performance controversy comes shortly after Ice Spice made headlines for her weight loss. A recent photo of the rapper with chef Nobu Matsuhisa revealed her toned abs, sparking online speculation that she used Ozempic, a diabetes drug sometimes used for weight loss.
In response to similar allegations in August 2024, Ice Spice dismissed the idea, advocating for gym workouts and healthy eating. She later shared a video of her fitness routine, seemingly to counter the rumors.
Ice Spice was one of three headliners at Wildlands Festival, alongside Fisher (OZ) and Chase & Status. Despite the star power, her delayed performance has left fans questioning the professionalism and respect owed to her audience. Whether Ice Spice will address the criticism remains to be seen.
