311 Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated on March 11th by fans of the American rock band 311 who post tributes to the band on social media. The band will perform an extended concert for fans on the day every two years. The band selected March 11th because it is written as “3/11” on American calendars.
311 (pronounced “three eleven”) is an Omaha, Nebraska-based American rock band. Nick Hexum, vocalist and guitarist, Jim Watson, lead guitarist, Aaron “P-Nut” Wills, bassist, and drummer Chad Sexton created the band in 1988. In 1990, Watson was succeeded by Tim Mahoney. Doug “SA” Martinez joined the band in 1992 to sing and provide turntables. 311 has released thirteen studio albums, two live albums, four compilation albums, four EPs, and four DVDs. 311 was signed to Capricorn Records. In 1992 after a string of indie releases, their albums Music (1993) and Grassroots (1994) were somewhat successful.
