The Weeknd Breaks Record for Most Spotify Listeners Becomes Most Popular Artist on Spotify

With more than 30 million monthly Spotify listeners, The Weeknd officially became the artist with the most listeners.

A total of 85,667,564 listeners were registered by the 31-year-old performer on Saturday. It was announced that they had accessed their Soundcloud account. In response to TMZ, The Weeknd dethroned Justin Bieber, who previously had an impressive 83.3 million Spotify followers.

In the weeks following the release of Dawn FM, The Weeknd’s fifth full-length studio album. He unseats Bieber as the world’s highest Spotify monthly listener, according to TMZ.

When he claimed the title in August 2021, Bieber racked up 83.3 million monthly listeners when he held the top spot for 190 consecutive days.

The Weeknd was right behind Bieber even back then, holding the second spot until Saturday’s shuffle despite not having released an album that year.

The Weeknd became the first solo male artist ever to have 24 songs chart simultaneously on Billboard Global 200. Making him the most concurrent charting solo male artist with 24 songs on the list.

The all-time title belongs to Bieber, whose monthly listeners peaked at 94.7 million during his reign, according to a Twitter account that tracks the singer’s Spotify statistics. While the Canadian Pop Star The Weeknd has eclipsed his fellow Canadian pop star for the monthly Spotify crown. It was the all-time title that still belongs to Bieber.

The Weeknd has released an album that has been compared to one of the most successful albums in music history just days after its release on Jan. 7.

As The Weeknd revealed in a 2021 interview with Variety, his new work would be more uplifting. He assured his fans he had been working on a new record.

The lead single from Dawn FM, Take My Breath, had a successful debut in August of this year. It went all the way to the top six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Earlier this month, the third single, Out of Time, was released, and a second single, Sacrifice, will be released next week.

A music review aggregation website called Metacritic currently ranks the record at 88.

Also on the horizon is The Weeknd’s After Hours til Dawn Stadium Tour. He will perform throughout the world in support of his two latest albums.

A series of shows had originally been planned to begin in 2020, but the start of the pandemic delayed the event.

Currently, the general public does not know the dates of the shows on the upcoming tour.
