Chicago P.D.’s Detective Jay Halstead exit explained
Jesse Lee Soffer’s Det. Jay Halstead has officially left Chicago P.D. with the premiere of this week’s episode titled, ‘A Good Man.’
The episode begins with Halstead having a conflict with his wife, Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).
However, soon after the spouses get involved to save the reputation of an Army vet who helped in a robbery. Additionally, Halstead didn’t arrest the vet but went around the law again to catch the criminal.
Nevertheless, Halstead decides to leave the Intelligence after realizing that he has broken the law again and is not changing for the better.
During his final moments, Halstead reunited with his wife revealing that he is going to Bolivia as an Army leader to track down Cartel forces.
Furthermore, Voight (Jason Beghe) visits him at the airport to say goodbye. He also offers Halstead any job he prefers.
However, Halstead replies by saying that he wants to be like his former boss which is an issue.
He says, ‘It’s like you’ve always told me: I’m not, and I shouldn’t try.’
Regardless, the two shook hands with Halstead leaving Chicago to embark on his new life.
Why did Jesse Lee Soffer depart from Chicago P.D.?
It was confirmed in August that Jesse Lee Soffer is all set to leave Chicago P.D. after ten seasons. Moreover, he released a statement to address his departure.
He said, ‘I want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support during the past 10 years.’
Soffer then went on to show his gratitude to his castmates and crew. He also added, ‘Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Rick Eid, Gwen Sigan, NBC, Universal Television,’
Furthermore, he stated, ‘To create this hour-long drama week after week has been a labor of love by everyone who touches the show. I will always be proud of my time as Det. Jay Halstead.’
Soffer also took to his Twitter handle to address his exit.
He wrote, ‘This is sad but true. Just want all the fans to know how grateful I am. You guys are why we do it! It has been an honor. Love you all.’
