Halsey calls out her record label for stopping her from not releasing new songs
Halsey took to TikTok to vent out her frustration with her record label Astralwerks/Capitol.
The star (who uses both ‘she/her’ and ‘they/them’ pronouns) mentioned that she cannot release new music unless she fakes a viral TikTok moment.
‘Basically, I have a song that I love that I want to release ASAP, but my record label won’t let me,’ the ‘I Am Not a Woman, I’m a God’ artist wrote the text over the TikTok video.
She overlayed further messages that said, ‘I’ve been in this industry for eight years and I’ve sold over 165 million records and my record company is saying I can’t release it unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok.’
Fans react to Halsey’s latest TikTok viral video
The caption added, ‘Everything is marketing and they are doing this to basically every artist these days.’
While some of Halsey’s fans were quick to shower concerns over the star following the clip, many TikTok users are having a hard time taking her word for it.
They think that Halsey Sunday’s post was itself the staged viral moment she was talking about in her video. They further slammed accusations at her for participating in the kinds of marketing she was condemning in her post.
Halsey addressed these criticisms on her Twitter account. She tweeted, ‘I’m way too established to stir something like this up for no reason or resort to this as a marketing tactic but now I’m in too deep so there’s no going back.’
In her TikTok video, the Grammy-nominated singer played a snippet of her unreleased song in the background. The official release date of her upcoming songs remains unclear.
The viral TikTok clip has already garnered more than 3 million views on the social media platform.
Halsey’s latest album, ‘If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power’ reached the second position on the charts of Billboard 200.
