Greta Thunberg was arrested in Germany while protesting against the demolition of the coal village of Luetzerath.

Why was Greta Thunberg detained? 

Greta Thunberg alongside her fellow activists was detained on 17th January Tuesday in Germany. 

Moreover, they were protesting against the demolition of a coal village in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, they were rallying for the country to expand its sources of renewable energy. 

However, they were forcefully removed from the premises and arrested after they refused to leave the protest despite receiving multiple warnings.

Meanwhile, several images and videos of the 20-year-old climate activist being carried away by three cops are going viral on social media. However, Thunberg was released after a brief detention and identity check.

Besides that, Thunberg’s recent arrest has left netizens divided as they recalled her showdown with  Andrew Tate in December 2022.

Netizens react to Greta Thunberg’s detention in Germany

Andrew Tate and Greta Thunberg made headlines in December 2022 for their showdown on Twitter which ultimately led to the arrest of the former from his residence in Romania.

Regardless, many netizens took to social media to share hilarious memes about Tate and Thunberg following the latter’s brief arrest.

A user wrote, ‘Maybe Greta Thunberg got arrested so she could see Andrew Tate in jail.’

Someone else shared, ‘Neither of them currently has multi-million dollar car collections.’

Another user chimed in to say, ‘There is clearly a competition going on between Greta Thunberg and Andrew Tate. Getting arrested is the new cool.’

Meanwhile, many went on to share that Thunberg’s arrest felt fake and staged since she is seen giggling and smiling while police officers carried her.

A different user pointed out, ‘The fake “arrest” of Greta Thunberg in Germany today. It’s all a theater.’

Andrew Tate and Greta Thunberg’s Twitter showdown

In December 2022, Andrew Tate tagged Greta Thunberg in a Twitter post and bragged about his car collection.

He wrote, ‘Hello @GretaThunberg. I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L quad turbo. My TWO Ferrari 812 competizione have 6.5L v12s. This is just the start.’

Moreover, he continued, ‘Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions.’

Thunberg on the other hand seemingly was not impressed with his message as she responded to Tate’s tweet.

She said, ‘Yes, please do enlighten me. email me at smalld*[email protected].’
