HBO has released the first footage from the upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel series, “House of the Dragon.” The 10-episode series will premiere on the platform on August 21.

What will “House of the Dragon” be about?

“House of the Dragon” takes place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” and tells the story of a civil war in the House of Targaryen. The show, created by Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, stars Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Paddy Considine, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Condal and George R.R. Martin co-created and wrote the series, and Sapochnik directed all episodes.

George R.R. Martin announced about “House of the Dragon” on his blog

George R.R. Martin took to his personal blog in February to announce that the prequel series “House of the Dragon” had finished filming, and he had nothing but praise for the episodes he had seen. “I’ve seen rough cuts of a few of them, and I’m really digging them,” Martin wrote. “Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done.” All post-production work, including special effects, colour synchronisation, and score.

However, the writing, directing, and acting all appear to be excellent. “I’d like to thank [showrunners] Ryan [J. Condal] and Miguel [Sapochnik] and their teams, as well as our incredible cast.” He previously stated, “I’m looking forward to ‘House of the Dragon’ pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth.” Okay, I’m not exactly objective. And I know a lot of what you’re going to see. (I wrote the book, uh, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um In addition… Don’t tell anyone, but mum’s the word now… I’ve seen an early draught of the first episode. And I adored it. It’s dark, powerful, and visceral… exactly how I like my epic fantasy.”

“House of the Dragon” is a spinoff of “Game of Thrones”

“House of the Dragon” is just one of several “Game of Thrones” spinoffs in development at HBO. The premium cable network is also developing “Tales of Dunk and Egg” and “10,000 Ships” prequels, as well as a “House of the Dragon” spinoff called “9 Voyages,” which will follow Steve Toussaint’s character from the upcoming series. There are also three animated “Game of Thrones” projects in the works, including one inspired by ancient China and based on The Golden Empire of Yi Ti. HBO previously shot a pilot for an untitled “Game of Thrones” spinoff starring Naomi Watts, which was never picked up for a series.
