Five Mississippi daycare workers are facing child abuse charges after a video of them scaring toddlers with a Halloween mask went viral.

Daycare employees are charged with child abuse after scaring kids in Halloween mask
On 6th October, a video filmed inside a daycare center in Hamilton went viral on social media.
The video showed employees of the facility sneaking up behind toddlers while wearing the Ghost Face mask from the popular movie Scream.
According to reports, the individuals are identified as Sierra McCandless, Ocianna Kilburn, Jennifer Newman, Shyenne Shelton, and Traci Hutson.
Additionally, all of them are currently taken into custody and charged with three felony counts of child abuse.
In addition, Hutson is also facing two misdemeanor counts for failing to report abuse and simple assault against a minor.
Moreover, Monroe County Sheriff Kevin Crook shared that charges were filed against the five workers after authorities met with the parents.
He announced, ‘On Monday, October 17, 2022, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the County Prosecuting Attorney, and the District Attorney met with the parents of the children involved in the incident at Lil’ Blessings Child Care and Learning Centre and informed them of the possible criminal charges the law would allow them to pursue.’
Furthermore, he continued, ‘Parents were also given an opportunity to share information they had gathered with MCSO Investigators.’
Meanwhile, Sheila Sanders, the owner of Monroe County daycare addressed the incident on Facebook.
She claimed, ‘The people that did those acts are no longer with us. They were fired.’
Additionally, she added, ‘I wasn’t here at the time and wasn’t aware they were doing that. I don’t condone that and never have. I just want to say it’s been taken care of.’
Parents condemn the workers for traumatizing their kids
Several parents of the children in the viral video broke their silence over how the incident will affect their kids.
Alissa Hays whose daughter was terrorized by the workers mentioned, ‘We thought we knew these people, we’re from here. I cannot communicate the words how I feel. I’m devastated for my baby.’
Subsequently, she stated, ‘It would definitely take security cameras, it would definitely take more leadership.’
Katelyn Johnson, another parent on the other hand told, ‘I hope you’re enjoying jail. And I hope you realize what you’ve done is serious. It’s not a joke. And it’s nothing to laugh at.’
