Fans speculate that Taylor Swift wrote a poetry book under the pen name June Bates

Some of Taylor Swift’s fans suspect that she is the author behind a sapphic poetry book titled, Lavender Haze.

The Lavender Haze controversy explained

Taylor Swift dropped her most awaited studio album  Midnight on 21st October. While the album is breaking a few records, the song  Lavender Haze is certainly gaining considerable attention from netizens.

Social media users have speculated that Swift wrote a book called The Lavender Haze: Sapphic poetry under the pen name June Bates.

It is important to note that, there is no concrete evidence to confirm that the Style singer is actually the author behind the poetry book.

Nevertheless, fans came up with a few theories to suggest that the 32-year-old star wrote the book.

Many fans noted that the book was released three days before Swift’s recent album on 21st October. In addition, they claimed the obvious similarity between the title of the anthology and Swift’s opening track of Midnight.

Meanwhile, others pointed out that June Bates’ bio which states that one of her hobbies includes listening to Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift talks about Lavender Haze

Taylor Swift revealed in a previous interview that Lavender Haze is about her relationship with her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn.

She further took to her Instagram to share details about the origin and the meaning behind the phrase.

The pop star said, ‘I happened upon the phrase ‘lavender haze’ when I was watching Mad Men. I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool. And it turns out that it’s a common phrase used in the ’50s when they would describe being in love. 

Swift continued, ‘If you’re in the ‘lavender haze,’ then that meant you were in that all-encompassing love glow. And I thought that was really beautiful.’

She further shared that the song ignores how social media sometimes twist the stories about ‘public figures,’ especially their personal lives.

Swift explained, ‘I think that a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just like ‘public figures,’ because we live in the era of social media, and if the world finds out if you’re in love with somebody they’re going to weigh in on it.’

She went on to say, ‘Like my relationship for six years we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. So this song is about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.’
