Facebook adding extra Security to protect users in Afghanistan after Taliban takeover

Facebook decided on Thursday that the social media company will change its policy measures. Facebook will implement new laws in order to defend the vulnerable users in Afghanistan during the Taliban’s takeover of the nation. Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Security Policy in Facebook informed the country by his tweet.

Users of Facebook will be able to lock their profiles with one click, preventing anyone from unlocking the user’s ID. Many features like the former are releasing soon. The Head Of Security Policy tweeted continuously for a while to provide information on the new features. He also said that Instagram will launch Pop-Alerts for Afghanistani Users. The Pop-Alerts will help them to protect their accounts. Afghanistan’s Instagrammers will not be able to connect with their Facebook friends in order to protect the public from becoming a target.


The Taliban took total control of Afghanistan at the starting of August month, just after U.S.A President Joe Biden promised to take back the troops and to stop the 20- years old war. Since the power seizing, The U.S has tried evacuating thousands of Afghanistanis by Cargo Aircraft. Taliban has ordered everyone to leave the country, within two weeks.


Facebook’s Head Of Security Head has said that the company will develop more new tools by taking suggestions. Activists, Civil society groups, and Journalists are all giving ideas to improve. Facebook has also created a new Special Operation Center to face the new threats and problems that may occur. Afghanistan is in a very difficult situation as the Taliban is killing everyone. In order to leave the country by U.S Aircrafts, many people died by clinging to the wheels of the aircraft.

Just like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will also be seen with new features to ensure the safety of Afghanistan’s Users. Twitter has said it with Civil Society Partners to support the public of Afghanistan. It also said that it will delete any account spreading hate, or suspend them. Twitter also, is working with the government, and all Afghanistan’s User’s accounts are to be confirmed. The verification is by Two-Step Verifications or E-KYC techniques.
