Everything You Need To Know About Richard Hinkley’s Mysterious Disappearance Case

Richard Hinkley, a Christchurch man went missing on Christmas morning in 2015. Six years have gone by and there’s still no clue where he went or what happened to him.
It has been almost six years since he went missing from his own home and the police are reopening the cold case again. The officials have urged people to give them every piece of information they might hold regarding the case.
Who is Richard Hinkley?
Richard Hinkley, 49 lived in a two-bedroom apartment in Christchurch’s City Centre. The last person to hear from him was his uncle who called him to wish him Merry Christmas.
He lived in Australia where he worked as a taxi driver for a while. He wasn’t in any relationship at the time of his disappearance.
His uncle told the officials that during the short conversation, Richard sounded tense.
When his neighbors didn’t hear from him for several days, they sensed something fishy and decided to call the police.
It has been six years and nobody has any clue where he went. Detective Sergeant Michael Freeman who was following the case said, “Everything seems to stop at his house on the 25th of Dec 2015, it’s as if time has stood still since then.”
Richard’s Apartment-
When the police entered Richard’s apartment, they might have expected some signs of robbery or forced abduction, however, the apartment was tidy and calm. He lived in a Japanese-style apartment, the wallpaper had Japanese writings and also a map of the country. It was decorated with Japanese lanterns and posters.
Nothing was missing from the apartment while the food kept in his fridge was expired, and his bed was unmade.
There were no signs that somebody kidnapped him because everything was in place beside the pair of sandals that were neatly placed in the middle of his living room.
According to his bank details, he was in major debt when he disappeared but the officials are still trying to understand where he spent that money.
Where Did Richard Vanish?
The officials are still trying to solve the mystery. There might have been three possibilities- He is alive somewhere, he committed suicide or someone murdered him.
Detective Sean Greenall said that anything could have happened to him. His apartment’s condition is also quite confusing as it appears that he just casually left and never came back. “He could’ve planned his own with all the problems he was having with cash disappearing. He could have established a new life with a new identity”.
